What is social anxiety?

Social anxiety is not just shyness; it is more severe than this.

With social anxiety you get very anxious about what other people may think of you, or how they may judge you. As a result you have great difficulty in social situations, which can greatly affect your day-to-day life. This is one of the most common anxieties.

Overcome being shy

How social anxiety affects you:

  • A strong fear or dread of social situations e.g. going to the pub or a party

  • A fear that you will act in an embarrassing or humiliating way

  • Possible weeks of anxiety prior to a social event

  • Avoidance of social situations as much as possible

  • Not being able to use public toilets (shy bladder)

  • Avoiding eye contact

  • Not saying anything personal about yourself

  • Worrying that other people are looking at you

  • Disliking being introduced to new people

  • Finding it hard to go into shops or restaurants

  • Worrying about about eating or drinking in public

  • Blushing

  • Stuttering or stammering

  • Wanting to get away from the situation

  • A panic attack

  • A very dry mouth

  • You may feel sick

  • Sweating

  • Your heart may be pounding

  • Wanting to go to the toilet

You usually know that your fear and anxiety is unreasonable but can’t do anything about it.

Can social anxiety be cured - yes!

Can social anxiety be cured?

The Thrive Programme is extremely effective and can dramatically transform your life and resolve social anxiety completely. By learning how to improve your self-esteem and understand unhelpful thinking that causes social anxiety, you can resolve this once and for all. It is a quick, easy programme and if you put the effort in, you can completely change your life, just like Katie did.

Imagine walking in to social situations, or getting on with work without a worry in the world, being confident enough to do a presentation in front of a group of people or actually looking forward to social events.

Before going to see Alison, I was suffering from social anxiety and panic attacks. It got to the point in which, I rarely left the house and wouldn’t go into social situations. Missing out on all the things teenagers would do was hard; as well as missing tonnes of college. From the very first session with Alison, things started to get better and progress was made. Alison is a warm, friendly individual who is very easy to talk too.

Going from being isolated and not attending college; I’m now studying sports massage therapy, a Kinesiology practitioner and gaining work experience with a UK professional cycling team in this area of work. I’m now never missing social situations and throwing myself into everything that I do. It’s all thanks to Alison, without her, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now. Thank you!
